The Concept of Peace (Intro)

Peace by itself is an abstraction of a state not provable because of all the obvious interpretations that lie in the collection of experiences that persons have and contrast them with the apparent notion of what it is to be in harmony or rest. Nature by itself is never at peace, is a constant struggle to achieve a condition of equilibrium never attained but always changing hence creating a cycle of renovation an progress.
In a more human level peace could be a state of consciousness in which “I” am aware of the boundaries that limit “my” actions in order to not transgress the “others” boundaries, not only the so called comfort zone but the needs, desires and expectations, this in practice becomes unreal. A person and more so a society needs to transgress such limits for us to be able to interact and communicate in a system in which the collective efforts takes us to a more fulfilling life, the goal of human existence.
Knowledge is in the only way in which we can reach a sort of state of peace, since it is only when a person understands his or her own limitations that he/she is able to comprehend that this philosophical, sometimes tangible and ephemeral construct “exists” for us to progress and try to be better beings.

  1. Good! Even though we don't have much peace in the world, we can spread it in our sorrounding. Respect and love others.

  2. I think that peace is impossible but that we all look for it. It doesn't mean that we all want world peace it just means that we all want to be somewhere quiet and resting. Peace is only what we make of it. GREAT post!

  3. I also think that peace does not exist. I agree on that peace is in our actions and limitations. I liked the way you analyzed peace.

That is a very good sentence you used there. Sadly we are very greedy and very self centered many times that we are unable to think of others, and do what you mentioned, limit our actions.

  5. Lately I've been thinking that maybe not even will we be unable to fully understand ourselves but to suppress our desire in order for a greater good. For once because I thought of myself as someone who wasn't trying to gain anything personal while working for Juárez, but ever since I got involved in projects I wanted something in exchange and I wasn't even noticing it. How did it happened and when? Maybe is that I can't see ahead in the future and as I grow old (I'm 25) I get scared that I just won't achieve anything in life. So the thing is, did I really knew myself as I thought I did. Didn't I became selfish? Granted the fact that I'm arrogant and yeah I'm selfish but I thought this was not part of the equation in Juarez (because I think the city has already many problems for it to deal with me). The fear of watching many of my friends my age at jobs they said they were going to aspire to or at least being in the path towards what they envisioned for themselves makes me feel left behind. But at the end is me who just maybe couldn't keep up and so I will have to do double the work to get there. How? I still have figure that out. But Back to the Peace thing... And so I started to see at other persons who I considered unbreakable (or uncorruptible although I don't mean this in an illegal way, just in a non-selfish sense) but really if I analyze their situation, overall they are still doing good to the city and working in projects which they believe will help change the state in which it has been Juarez (many, many factors, which would take me hours to explain will ultimately lead to a better state in Juarez, see that I'm using better, not solved or any other word) but they have changed, they've become selfish, they are looking for something in return, not like when we started, we deviated our attitudes, curved is a better way to say it. Maybe it was that since we were inside we got to know all the possibilities we had at our hands to "progress" or to create our own NGO's and stuff, all the grants, all the money. Where and when did loose ground? I don't know and I don't mind tracing those steps back, I get comfort in that "we" "all" "are" "still" "tryining" to achieve peace in Juarez.

  6. I think that caring for others should be a basic thing that we should do as, human beings. Unfortunately sometimes we let our chances pass by without having the conscience that we could of made a person feel better with just a smile or hug. Sometimes we are to caught up with ourselves that we forget about the world and the ideas and feelings that others may have.

  7. I disagree with you when you say that peace is an abstraction and not provable. I think that at one point or another that it can actually be achieved, it will just take certain things and certain time for the world to have peace.

  8. the antonym of peace is war, this means that if we are not at war, we are at peace.

  9. I love the chosen words you use to describe peace. It is a huge issue in our world today.

  10. Very good description of peace. Its poignant and true. Ones boundries do have an effect on peace. Your use of language suggests that you have expierence in philosophy. That is good because it takes that kind of thinking to achive peace.

  11. I like how you analyzed peace. The way you see peace is different that what others see even me, because I really did not see peace like you did, the way I see peace is hearts, rainbow, colorful like the hippies. (Unicorns and Glitter)

  12. I think you are right it is not about the individual but about a whole. We have become so self-centered that we tend to lose sight of what is really important.
